Six Perfect Honeymoon Destinations
Couples planning a honeymoon may find all the possibilities a little overwhelming. In a new survey by website Vacation (vacation.com), nearly 150 travel agents who specialize in destination weddings and honeymoons pick some of their favorite spots.
According to the survey respondents, the top six honeymoon destinations are the Eastern Caribbean island of St. Lucia, Jamaica, Bora Bora/the Tahitian Islands, the Mexican resort area of Riviera Maya, Italy and Hawaii.
Active travelers will revel in the tropical landscape of St. Lucia. Hike up the scenic Pitons, two impressive volcanic spires, or take a volcano tour from a Jeep. The island’s warm blue waters are perfect for a scuba diving. They can also ride along the coast on a catamaran watercraft. Afterward, take a mud bath at the volcanic Sulphur Springs or lounge on the white-sand and black-sand beaches.
Jamaica, the birthplace of reggae, offers newlyweds a laid-back vibe. Stroll past Montego Bay’s British Colonial architecture and sample the mouthwatering local cuisine. Book a sea salt and hot stone massage. To enjoy Jamaica’s beauty, visit the waterfalls on an excursion to Blue Hole in Ocho Rios and swim in the incredibly blue water. For something unusual, try horseback riding in the ocean.
A magical experience awaits honeymooners on Bora Bora and the islands of Tahiti, with a stay in an overwater bungalow. Each bungalow has its own staircase right into the ocean. After breakfast, take a swim in the stunning and calm turquoise waters. At the end of the day, enjoy a romantic stargazing boat tour. For a beach honeymoon, head to the blue waters and breathtaking cliff-top views along the Amalfi Coast. Afterward, tour other parts of Italy, like Florence, the epicenter of Renaissance culture, where you can take private museum tours and cooking classes. Or, travel farther south to explore the Roman ruins of Pompeii.
Hawaii offers honeymooners a chance to explore an amazing destination with no passport required. Every island features its own distinct flair. Oahu has an urban feel and world-class surfing. Maui offers luxury resorts and the breathtaking Hana Highway. Kauai offers jaw-dropping beauty by hiking to waterfalls. Hawaii is perfect whether you want to relax on the beach, play golf or take an adventurous hike.
