REAL ID are you REALLY ready?

Here is some helpful information about what you need to know about REAL IDs.

What is it?

REAL ID was passed by Congress in 2005 that establishes minimum security standards for state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards.

When will REAL ID be enforced?

October 1, 2021

Where do I need to present a REAL ID?

If you want to board a domestic flight, access a federal facility or enter a nuclear power plant, you will need a REAL ID.

How do I get a REAL ID?

If you are a Minnesota resident, please click here: https://dps.mn.gov/divisions/dvs/real-id/Pages/default.aspx

For all others, please visit your state’s driver’s license agency website to find exact information.

Can I board an airplane after October 1, 2021 without a REAL ID?

Yes, you would either need to present a valid passport or passport card, state-issued Enhanced Driver’s License, DHS trusted traveler card (Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI, FAST) or other acceptable forms of ID.

Travelers who do not present a REAL ID-compliant license or acceptable alternative beginning October 1, 2021 will not be permitted through the security checkpoint.
